Sarah Ruhl's brilliant comedy revolves around Lane, a doctor who can't stand to clean her own house. Unfortunately for the busy physician, her depressed young cleaning lady, Mathilde's attude toward dirt is, "If the floor is dirty, look at the ceiling." Zoloft doesn't help, but Lanes's sister, Virginia, secretly takes the job with uproarious results.
THE CLEAN HOUSE won the 2004 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, awarded annually to the best English-language play written by a woman, and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist.
